Head Coach Mike Werner - poseidonmike@comcast.net
Mike grew up in Henefer, Utah and graduated from North Summit HS in 1993. He has a son, Ryan Ryker Werner, born March 19, 2003. How he first got into competitive swimming in the fall of 1994 is an interesting story. A community recreation team was being started at the local pool where he taught swim lessons. One of his friends was asked to help coach the new team. Well, Mike decided that if she could coach and run a team, then so could he. After about three weeks of coaching the North Summit Community Recreation Swim Team (eventually NSST), coaching 3 practices per week for one hour a day, he discovered a passion for swimming that would lead him down the wet pool deck of life! In September of 1995, he took a position with the Layton Surfers (SURF), where he stayed until August of 1999. While at Layton, Mike had the opportunity to work with the Surfers as well as Layton, Northridge and Davis high schools. In August of 1999, he took a position with the Cottonwood Heights Aquatics Team (CHAT), working also with Brighton HS. In December of 2000, while at CHAT, Mike graduated from Weber State University, majoring in Geography, with a minor in Physical Education Coaching/Teaching. In May of 2001, Coach Mike was offered a position at the West Valley City Family Fitness Center, and the next month started the West Valley City Poseidons (WVCP). He coached the Poseidons until November of 2005. In November of 2005, Mike was offered the head coach position of the Park City Aquatic Team (PCAT).
During Mike’s coaching career, he has served on the Utah Swimming Board of Directors in the capacities of Coaches Representative, Safety Chairman, Age Group Chairman and Technical Planning and is currently the General Chairman of Utah Swimming. He has been involved with the Utah Zone Team as the Team Manager in 1999, 2004 and 2005, Assistant Coach in 2006, and as the Head Coach in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2010. Also in May of 2006, Mike was the Assistant Manager for USA Swimming Western Regional Select Camp.
Mike's successes include the 2005 Utah Sportsmanship Award, 2007 Utah Swimming Coach of the Year, 2008 3A HS Female's Coach of the Year and 2008 Utah Swimming's Most Improved Coach of the Year in 2008.

By now, everyone should know who I am. If not... Hi, my name is Serena.
I was born in Great Falls, Montana. I moved to West Valley in 1994 and have been here ever since. I started swimming for Granger HS my sophomore year. My favorite part of swimming was the meets. I loved being with my friends and getting to push my myself to do better. I graduated from Granger HS in 2002.After taking a year off form school, I started at Salt Lake Community College. From there, I transfered to the University of Utah to pursue a degree in Biology. In May 0f 2009, I graduated with a BS of Science in the field of Biology.
I have been coaching with Mike for almost six years. My favorite part of coaching is the kids. I enjoy watching them grow into swimmers. Meets are also great because this is where we get to see all of your hard work in action.
I enjoy working with PCAT and feel it's a great program! It has been amazing to watch PCAT grow from the smallest program in the state to one that is one of the best in the state. I'm excited to see where PCAT goes and watch the athletes move up the ladder of competition.
I have been an Assistant Coach for the Utah Zone Team in 2006 and 2007. Also I have been an asst. coach with the Park City HS team since Sep of 2007.

Pre-Cat Head Coach /Asst. Coach Katie Rahn - katierahn@aol.com
Katie's philosophy is that there is no reason to sweat if you can swim for a work out. During her swimming career Katie has done it all. She started swimming at a young age and quickly surpassed those older than her. Each summer at Girl Scout camp Katie would be put into the highest swim group starting at a very young age.
Growing up in Bloomington, IN she joined the Bloomington Swim Club when she was just eight years old and competed with them for the next few years. Later Katie would compete for Tri-North Middle School and North High School in the 200 IM, 100 Backstroke and 100 Fly. While she was in high school she started her coaching career by helping out with the middle school team. Then in the summer of 1998 she began giving lessons.
Katie worked at the Swim school in Tucson from 1999-2002 and then at a different swim school in Phoenix from 2007-2008. In 2001 she was the Aquatics Director at Camp Ondessonk in Southern Illinois. During the 2006 season she coached a Special Olympics team in Indiana. And just to make things interesting she also played a year of college water polo. Her team made it to the championships. Swimming is in Katie's blood and she looks forward to helping more young swimmers achieve their goals.
